Anthony Tam

Anthony Tam—pianist, examiner, competition juror, pedagogue, and clinician—holds Fellowship Diplomas in Piano Performance from the National College of Music, London, and in Piano Teaching from the Victoria College of Music, London. He also holds performance diplomas from the Australian Music Examinations Board and the University of West London.

Mr. Tam is the first non-British member of the Academical Board of the National College of Music in its 120-year history and the first Chinese music examiner for both the National and Victoria Colleges of Music. In 2012, he was appointed senior examiner for the National College of Music. He currently serves as a music examiner for four different boards simultaneously, including the Con Brio Examination Board and the Italian Music Assessment Board System, where he is Chief Examiner.

Born and trained in Hong Kong, he debuted on television at age 6 performing Beethoven. He has studied under renowned pedagogues such as Madam Kam-Mui Deng and Madam Wo-Ping Law, and worked with Shura Cherkassky. As a juror, he has chaired the Steinway Piano Competition (2014) and the Mozart International Piano Competition, and judged for the World Piano Pedagogy Conference (USA), Euterpe Competition (Italy), and Merci Maestro (Belgium).

Since earning his Doctorate in Music Education, he has taught worldwide. He is the Hong Kong President of the World Piano Teachers Association and Artistic Director of the PianoFocus Summer Camp in Canada. An accomplished author, his latest book on music study was published in 2020.
